1. The Battlefield: Escalating Strikes and Strategic Targets
Before we talk about the peace talks we need to understand how bad the fighting is now. Lately both Ukraine and Russia have been attacking each other a lot, hitting targets inside each other's lands.
Ukraine is really going after Russia's factories and energy places. Not ago Ukrainian forces used a special missile to hit a big factory in the Chuvash republic. This factory makes parts for weapons that Russia uses against Ukraine.
At the time Russia has been sending drones and missiles to attack Ukraine at night. One big attack in the Poltava region hit a gas facility, which was very sad because people got hurt and a lot of people did not have gas. The area around the capital city of Kyiv also got hit by drones, which hurt buildings where people live in cities like Brovary. Ukraine and Russia are still. Ukraine and Russia need to stop this. The conflict between Ukraine and Russia is very bad. We need to think about the peace talks, for Ukraine and Russia.

2. Critical Infrastructure Under Fire
The plan to weaken the economy and energy resources keeps going. Ukraine hit the city of Tuapse, a port on the Black Sea for the fourth time in a little over two weeks. This caused a growing problem with black smoke and oil leaking into the sea.
People in Tuapse are now being told where to go in case of an attack. The city has 186 bomb shelters listed for people to use. This is a reminder that war is close to daily life.
3. The Ceasefire Standoff: Putin’s Request vs. Zelensky’s Proposal
The situation is really intense with all the bombing going on. Now people are talking about a possible ceasefire. Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Zelensky have different ideas about what that would look like.
Russian President Vladimir Putin wanted a two-day ceasefire on May 8 and 9. This is when Moscow has a military parade to celebrate Victory Day. Moscow said if Ukraine tries to mess with the parade they will launch a missile strike on Kyiv. They told people to leave the city.
At first President Zelensky did not think this was an idea. He said no to giving guarantees that the parade would be safe. He made a video where he made fun of the parade saying it is really protected and restricted. He said they are worried about drones flying around.
Then President Zelensky changed his mind and said okay let us have a ceasefire but it has to be, on our terms. He said Ukraine will stop attacking on Wednesday, May 6 at 12:00 AM. Ukraine said they will stop fighting. If Russian President Vladimir Putin's forces do something wrong Ukraine will do the same thing right back.
4. Victory Day Paranoia: Security Measures in Moscow
Moscow is being really careful with security for its Victory Day celebrations. The city does not want a repeat of what happened when Ukrainian drones got too close during big holidays. So Russian authorities are stopping people from using internet and messaging services in and around Moscow.
People who live there have been told that they might have some problems with things like paying with cards using GPS and getting money from ATMs. The government wants to make sure the airspace over Red Square is safe.
The situation is still uncertain. Even though both sides have said they will stop fighting they are not really agreeing on the terms.. Fighting is still happening. The whole world is watching to see what will happen on May 6. Will everything really be quiet or not?
